The interior or exterior decor brings light to a room. Eventually, in order to achieve the best result, the wall has to be prepared well before painting. The painter is advised to dress heavily with gloves and overall (or old clothes). Before the start of wall preparation and painting, ensure you have the right materials for use and start the process as soon as you set. Below is a discussion on steps to follow on how to prepare a wall for painting.

Clean the walls – for the surface and any other wall, clean it with a towel or a vacuum cleaner. While cleaning a wall in contact with oil or grease, use laundry detergent in order to remove any residue. Afterwards, thoroughly rinse the wall.

Get rid of old painting – Before painting that wall, ensure the old paint is removed. Use paint scrapper to remove any old painting on the walls.

Fix damages or any flaws on the walls – For an instance where the wall has grown molds, first ensure that you remove them for a smooth wall. Therefore, to avoid any cracking later, ensure damages on wall are repaired.

Sanding the walls – After executing all repairs, smoothen the wall though sanding. Sanding the wall ensures that paint on the wall is also smooth.

Lastly prime the wall – priming ensures that any imperfection are not visible after painting.

In conclusion, after executing the above, the wall is now ready for painting according to your desired paint color. The steps above on how to prepare the wall for painting eases the whole preparation process. In case for water based painting the sanding process is not really a step to follow.
